Special Instruction at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy
a study on cadets' perceptions of the main attitudes developed during the 2022 jungle survival and special techniques training course

Military activity entails physical, psychological, and moral risks that expose service members to the potential psychophysiological effects of stress. Given this context, it becomes essential to incorporate this characteristic into the training of Armed Forces personnel, aiming to mitigate the possible impacts of stress. Within the current competency-based education framework, this objective is pursued through the development of the attitudinal component. This study aimed to investigate how special instruction contributes to the attitudinal development of cadets at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy (AMAN), through combat simulation. The research focused specifically on the Jungle Survival and Special Techniques Training Course conducted by SIEsp/AMAN in 2022. The general objective was to identify, based on cadets' perceptions, the primary attitudes developed during the training and their alignment with the goals established in the PLADIS. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire, which received 260 responses from a total of 400 trainees, with a confidence level of 99% and a 5% margin of error. The results indicated that, in addition to the attitudes prioritized for development during the stage, 17 out of the 18 competencies outlined in the CFGO/LEMB Professional Profile were also highly developed. This finding highlights the relevance of special instruction—designed to simulate combat and expose cadets to potentially stressful stimuli—for the overall formation of military personnel, particularly for future combat officers of the Brazilian Army.
